Equipping items

This is probably a really noob question, but I cannot figure out how to equip items once I've picked them up. I could originally in just WC3 but later in the game my Hero would just drop the item on the ground. I right click the item and cilck on the hero and they drop the item. I've also progressed to the Frozen Throne and the same problem persists. I'd really appreciate any help figuring this one out as I can't equip anything.|||Any item in the inventory is equipped. Just look at the hero stats with and without it.
